Job Description

At Natera, our goal is to make personalized genomics and medicine a reality at scale. As a Senior Research Associate, you will be part of a small, focused research team that is using cutting edge technology and science in order to build scalable, robust, and modular platforms upon which current and future products can be built. You will get to design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments under the guidance of, and in collaboration with, a tight-knit group of scientists and engineers. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about understanding the nuts and bolts of how assays work, relentless about optimizing their experiments, and most of all is excited about being at the forefront of clinical sequencing and having their work used in the clinical care of millions of patients. The Senior Research Associate performs R&D experiments in collaboration with other research and development personnel. They are responsible for performing scientific experiments, making detailed observations and interpretations of results, performing lab managerial duties and working cross-functionally with scientific, clinical, and technical teams to support product development. Additionally, they are able to be self-directed and can work well in an exciting fast paced environment. This position will also have lab manager duties to ensure that all lab operations run smoothly. Primary Responsibilities Collaboratively design experimental plans and execute complex laboratory experiments such as analyte extractions, next-generation library preparation, hybrid capture and sequencing. Write protocols and document results and scientific interpretations. Contribute insight toward experimental findings and troubleshoot laboratory processes and protocols. Communicate and discuss results with a multidisciplinary team including biologists, bioinformaticians, statisticians, software engineers and managers. Support the lab in performing lab managerial duties such as maintaining lab equipment, ordering and stocking equipment and supplies, and working with facilities and EH&S to ensure lab compliance. Help invent new products, and integrate product improvements to somatic and germline applications.

Requirements

Qualifications Bachelors in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or closely related fields with a minimum of 4 years of industry experience or a Masters with 2 years of industry experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Hands-on experience with basic molecular biology techniques, including PCR, QRT-PCR, digital PCR, nucleic acids extractions or sequencing. Experience with next generation sequencing (NGS) methods and techniques. Experience in data analysis using Excel or other data analysis tools. Nice To Have Experience in epigenetic/methylation, target enrichment, working with cfDNA/RNA/FFPE tissues and NGS data analysis. Familiar with optimizing laboratory methodologies and troubleshooting complex problems. Experience working with lab managerial duties. Experience in developing tests in liquid biopsy. Experience in programming and operating liquid handlers.
