Job Description

At Natera, our goal is to make personalized genomics and medicine a reality at scale. As a Scientist, you will be part of a small, focused research team that is using cutting edge technology and science in order to build scalable, robust, and modular platforms upon which current and future products can be built. You will get to design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments under the guidance of, and in collaboration with, a tight-knit group of scientists and engineers. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about understanding the nuts and bolts of how assays work, relentless about optimizing their experiments, and most of all is excited about being at the forefront of clinical sequencing and having their work used in the clinical care of millions of patients. The ideal R&D Scientist candidate helps us lead and execute laboratory experiments to aid in product development. They are tasked with applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems. They have broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories and can work well in an exciting fast paced environment. Primary Responsibilities Autonomously and accurately design experimental plans and execute complex laboratory experiments such as extractions, next-generation library preparation, hybrid capture and sequencing. Contributes substantially to research and development. Evaluate and integrate new emerging technologies in genomics. Write protocols and document results and scientific interpretations. Contribute insight toward experimental findings and troubleshoot laboratory processes and protocols. Communicate and discuss results with a multidisciplinary team including biologists, bioinformaticians, statisticians, software engineers and managers. Perform basic data analysis. Design and coordinate the execution of effective experiments and work with statistics and bioinformatics team Perform basic data analysis. (Python, R, Excel) Manage Research Associates. Document research progress under a Quality Management System. Communicate progress directly with colleagues and senior management. Help invent new products, and integrate product improvements to somatic and germline applications.


Qualifications Master’s in Molecular Biology, closely a related field, or equivalent with a minimum of 6 years of industry experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Hands-on experience with basic molecular biology techniques, including PCR, QRT-PCR, digital PCR, nucleic acids extractions or sequencing. Extensive experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) methods and techniques. Extensive experience in optimizing laboratory methodologies and troubleshooting complex problems. Demonstrated success in applying independent scientific judgment in experimental design and analysis. Experience in data analysis using Excel or other data analysis tools. Experience in writing clear plans, reports and SOPs. Proven success in managing collaborative and individual projects. Very strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Nice To Have Experience in epigenetic/methylation, target enrichment, working with cfDNA/RNA/FFPE tissues and NGS data analysis is a plus. Experience in programming and operating liquid handlers.
