NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) – Era7 Bioinformatics has received a $100,000 grant from Spain's Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness that it will use to partially fund an ongoing project that aims to design and test new 16S amplicon and sequencing approaches for exploring microbiome data.
Specifically, the project aims to come up with bespoke approaches for exploring different kinds of microbiomes, Eduardo Pareja, Era7's CEO, said in a statement. "After our broad experience dealing with many kinds of human microbiomes ... environmental, and industrial microbiomes ... we realized that different kinds of microbiomes demand different approaches in terms of regions to be amplified and sequencing strategy," he said. "This grant will ensure the success of the project."
Last year, Era7 received a $400,000 investment from Commercial Rafer, which it used to hire new staff and to launch a new lab to offer customized sample preparation to customers of its bioinformatics analysis services.
