Vivascience is offering new spin columns to be used in preparation of samples for mass spectrometry. The Vivapure C18 Micro spin columns contain a C18-membrane that is suited for concentration, purification and desalting of peptides prior to analysis. The columns are designed to interface with MALDI, MALDI-TOF and ESI samples. The Vivapure spin columns are the newest of a range of Vivasceince protein purification products that include products to improve 2D-PAGE sample preparation.

The Blueprint Initiative announced this week that it has overhauled its SeqHound data warehouse, moving it from prototype status to a freely available bioinformatics platform.

SeqHound integrates daily-updated data from various sources such as the National Center for Biotechnology Information and the Gene Ontology Consortium to offer researchers access to cross-referenced sequence records, 3-D protein structures, sequence redundant groups, functional annotations, protein neighbors, taxonomy information, conserved protein domains and PubMed links.

Researchers can access SeqHound through the web at http://seqhound.blueprint.org, or by using an application programming interface written in Perl, C, C++ and Java.

Bioinformatics Solutions announced this week the release of PEAKS 2.4, the latest version of its protein and peptide analysis software. PEAKS 2.4 has been fine-tuned for FT-ICR instruments. It takes advantage of the machines’ mass accuracy and resolution so that researchers can use only one software package for any instrument in their lab, whether it is an ion trap, QTof or FT machine.
