Trevor Hawkins has been appointed chief science and technology officer of MDS, the company announced last week. MDS operates a joint venture in mass spectrometry with Applied Biosystems.
Hawkins most recently served as president of molecular diagnostics at GE Healthcare as well as senior vice president of development at Amersham Biosciences. Hawkins holds a BS and PhD in biochemistry from the University of Sussex.
In addition, Thomas Caskey has joined the board of directors of MDS. Caskey is a managing director of Cogene BioTech Ventures. In the past, he was chairman of the department of molecular and human genetics of Baylor College of Medicine, senior vice president of human genetics and vaccines discovery at Merck Research Laboratories, president of the Merck Genome Research Institute, president of the American Society of Human Genetics, and president of the Human Genome Organization.
Edward Barnholt has been named to the board of directors of eBay, the online auctioneer said last week. Barnholt stepped down as chief executive officer of Agilent Technologies in March.
