Agilent Technologies this week announced the appointment of Rick Burdsall to the newly created position of chief infrastructure officer.

Burdsall will be responsible for IT, global sourcing, workplace services, and the infrastructure related to Agilent's pending acquisition of Varian, the company said in a statement.

Burdsall is currently Agilent's vice president and chief information officer. He was previously the company's vice president of information technology solution services. He joined Hewlett-Packard in 1991 as a product marketing manager in the Semiconductor Products group and has held a variety of marketing leadership positions at HP and Agilent.


Australian biomarker diagnostic company Healthlinx this week announced its distribution partner in the UK, Intus Healthcare, has formed a scientific advisory board to provide guidance in the marketing of Healthlinx OvPlex ovarian cancer test in the UK.

The five-protein panel was launched in the UK in February [See accompanying story in this week's issue].

Intus' SAB consists of Amrit Takhar, Malcolm Padwick, Fergus Macpherson, Louise Bayne, and Sean Kehoe.

Takhar is a general practitioner who heads a practice in Wansford, UK. He is a member of the Northamptonshire Local Medical Committee and the strategic management group at the East Midlands Primary Care Research Network.

Padwick is the clinical lead for gynecological cancer and colposcopy at West Hertfordshire Hospital. Macpherson is national head of pathology for UK hospital network Spire Healthcare, and Bayne is CEO of Ovacome, a UK charity group providing support for patients with ovarian cancer.

Kehoe is president of the British Gynaecological Cancer Society.


Caris Life Sciences this week announced the appointment of Dan Sawyers as vice president and chief accounting officer, and Greg Kelly as senior vice president of operations.

Sawyers is responsible for all accounting and finance operation of Caris. Prior to joining Caris, he was CAO at SourceCorp, where he was responsible for establishing accounting policies and practices, accounting controls, and financial reporting. Before that, he was senior vice president and general manager of McKesson's shared service center in Carrollton, Texas.

Kelly will manage Caris' four laboratories and drive process improvement companywide. Most recently, he was senior vice president of operations with Genco Supply Chain Operations. He previously was director of operations at Dell.
