Joe Beery has been appointed head of Invitrogen’s Global Information Technology, the company announced last week.
Beery has a 25-year background in IT strategy and implementation. Most recently he was US Airways’ senior vice president and chief information officer where he was responsible for all IT business and operational systems and applications, process improvements, revenue generation, and customer service programs.
He was also America West’s CIO before it merged with US Airways.

The National Institutes of Health said this week its director, Elias Zerhouni, has nominated 21 members for the Scientific Management Review Board, created to examine NIH’s organizational structure and to make recommendations for improving the institute’s mission.
The SMRB was authorized by the NIH Reform Act of 2006 and signed into law by President Bush in January 2007.
Norman Augustine has been nominated to serve as SMRB’s first chairman. Augustine is the former chairman of the executive committee of Lockheed Martin and has served as a consultant to the Executive Office of the President, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Research and Development, and Undersecretary of the Army.
He also held positions as president, CEO, and chairman of Martin Marietta Aerospace.
Also nominated to the SMRB were: Jeremy Berg, director of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences; William Brody, president of the Johns Hopkins University; Gail Cassell, vice president of scientific affairs at Eli Lilly; Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases; Dan Goldin, former NASA administrator; Richard Hodes, director of the National Institute on Aging; Stephen Katz, director of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases; Thomas Kelly, director of the Sloan-Kettering Institute, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center; Story Landis, director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke; Elizabeth Nabel, director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; John Niederhuber, director of the National Cancer Institute; Deborah Powell, dean and assistant vice president for clinical science at the University of Minnesota Medical School; Griffin Rodgers, director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases; William Roper, vice chair of health, University of North Carolina; Arthur Rubenstein, executive vice president of the University of Pennsylvania Health System and dean of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine; Solomon Snyder, professor of psychiatry, neurosciences and pharmacology at the Johns Hopkins University; Lawrence Tabak, director of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research; Harold Varmus, president of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center; Eugene Washington, executive vice chancellor, professor and chair of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences, and professor of epidemiology and biostatics at the University of California, San Francisco; and Huda Zoghbi, professor and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator at Baylor College of Medicine.
