Axygen, Ariadne Genomics, Pall

Axygen announced last week the release of a new line of crystallography products that includes the Axygem Sitting Drop Crystallography Plate, the Crystallography Plate UltraClear Sealing Film, the Semi-Automated Protein Crystallography Plate and Microplate Sealer, the Crystal Recognition Software, the Crystool software for customizable random crystallization screens, and the Axygen in-house, custom-made Crystallization Screens generated by the company's Crystool proprietary algorithm.

The crystallography products will be introduced at the upcoming American Crystallography Association conference in Orlando, Fla., and the International Union of Crystallography conference in Florence, Italy.

Ariadne Genomics announced this week the release of PathwayStudio Central, a software for the visualization and analysis of biological pathways and gene regulation networks. According to the company, the software builds pathways from microarray data, identifies biomarkers and models drug responses. It comes with the ResNet database of more than 500,000 functional relationships and the MedScan tool for automatic extraction of information from scientific literature.

Ariadne Genomics also announced the launch this week of MedScan Text-to-Knowledge Suite 2.0, a natural language processing-based tool for automated extraction of biological facts from scientific literature, Medline abstracts, and other text sources.

According to Ariadne Genomics, MedScan uses hand-crafted dictionaries of protein and chemical names and precise text parsing, and pattern-matching algorithms to extract functional relationships between proteins, cell processes, and small molecules. It recognizes types of regulatory mechanisms, and can be customized to extract other types of information.

A demo version of MedScan is available at

Pall launched this week its new 2005-2006 Laboratory Filtration and Separation Catalog which presents the company's complete line of products. The 284-page catalog is designed around applications for drug discovery, laboratory bioprocessing, chromatography, coarse filtration and quality control. It also includes detailed application information, selection guides, technical reports and performance data.
