People in the News: Charles Woler, Mark Adams, and Roger Tsien

Charles Woler

NovellusDx has appointed Charles Woler to its board of directors. Woler has spent the last 30 years working in the healthcare industry. He currently holds non-executive chairman and directorship positions in various European countries and the US. Woler has also served as CEO of Roche France, SmithKline Beecham, and most recently Biomnis.


Mark Adams

Celmatix has appointed Mark Adams as its chief information officer. Adams joins Celmatix from Good Start Genetics where he also served as chief information officer. Prior to Good Start, he developed unique data warehousing and machine learning approaches to support the hedge fund at Bridgewater Associates. Adams also built a biomedical informatics consulting practice at Booz Allen Hamilton, and his earliest commercial efforts in bioinformatics explored and used genomic data and information at various companies, including Variagenics and Incyte.


Roger Tsien

Nobel Prize-winning chemist Roger Tsien died on Aug. 24 in Eugene, Oregon. He was professor of pharmacology, chemistry, and biochemistry at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine. His work on illuminating life within living cells through the discovery and development of green fluorescent protein derived from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria led him to co-win the 2008 Nobel in chemistry. That work was done in collaboration with Osamu Shimomura and Martin Chalfie.
