PerkinElmer has appointed CEO and President Robert Friel to the additional job of chairman of its board of directors. The company said that the appointment is part of a leadership succession plan that it adopted in 2007. Friel succeeds Gregory Summe, who did not stand for re-election. Friel started at the company in 1999 as CFO and he was promoted to president and COO in 2007, and he took the CEO spot from Summe last year.
