Product Watch: Diffinity Genomics' RapidTip2; Bibby Scientific's Techne Prime Cyclers


Diffinity Genomics has launched the Diffinity RapidTip2 for PCR purification and polymerase removal prior to cloning or Sanger sequencing.

RapidTip2 enables PCR purification in one minute with a single mixing step using only a standard pipettor, with no additional reagents, consumables, or equipment. The technology comes prepackaged in a single pipette tip. Unincorporated dNTPs, primers, primer-dimers, and DNA polymerase are removed by aspirating the PCR sample into the tip; and the purified PCR product can be dispensed from the tip and used immediately in downstream applications.

RapidTip2 comes in two formats for compatibility with either universal or Rainin LTS-style pipettes, and is optimized to purify a 50 µL sample volume.

Bibby Scientific has introduced redesigned versions of its Techne Prime range of thermal cyclers.

The new thermal cyclers — the 3Prime, 3PrimeX, 3PrimeG, Prime, and PrimeG — all feature easier programming and increased flexibility compared to previous models, the company said. All models have an enhanced thermal engine, a color touch interface, and pre-programmed protocol templates.

3Prime is an entry-level thermal cycler that can store up to 1,000 programs and features rapid ramp rates and a small footprint. Bibby said that it is ideal for research and teaching labs.

3PrimeX and 3PrimeG are mid-sized cyclers that offer expanded sample capacity and gradient cycling capability.

The Prime and PrimeG are full-sized models with an interchangeable block system ideal for all routine PCR experiments, Bibby said.
