Qiagen this week launched several assays for miRNA research, gene silencing, and DNA methylation analysis.

The new PyroMark CpG assays enable high-resolution methylation analysis of specific genomic targets. Using pyrosequencing, consecutive methylation sites can be analyzed independently and quantitative methylation data can be obtained quickly and conveniently, Qiagen said.

Specifically, PyroMark custom assays are customer-designed and can be used for any type of pyrosequencing research application, such as epigenetics, genotyping, microbial identification, and resistance typing. By designating PCR and sequencing primers, the researcher can generate optimized, user-specific assays to determine methylation patterns, insertion/deletion frequency, or other mutations.

In addition, the PyroMark OneStep RT-PCR kit is a one-step kit for identifying and resistance typing RNA viruses using pyrosequencing. The kit generates a high-quality sequencing template in the quantities needed for sensitive mutation and microbial analysis, Qiagen said.

Qiagen also launched the miScript Target Protector assay for revealing the targets and roles of specific miRNAs; and the FlexiTube siRNA premix, which contains siRNA and a transfection reagent premixed at optimized ratios.

Lucigen this week announced the availability of its PyroScript RT-PCR master mix kit, which contains a novel enzyme in a 2X master mix that performs both reverse transcription and PCR.

The thermostable enzyme allows RT-PCR at temperatures higher than 70°C with no need for a separate reverse transcription step. Amplification of viral and cellular RNA up to 400 bp in length can be performed in 30 minutes. Results can be analyzed using real-time or end-point methods, Lucigen said.

Biohit, the US subsidiary of Finland's Biohit Oyj, last week launched the mLINE PCR starter kit.

The kit includes three pipettes covering the standard volumes used in PCR along with sterile and certified SafetySpace filter tips, which guarantee contamination-free and safe pipetting, Biohit said.

The kit also includes a pipette holder, color-coded caps, microtube opener/calibration tool, cooling rack, cryo pen, and literature.
