Dx Focus: Vela Diagnostics' MRSA/SA PCR Test

Premium

Vela Diagnostics this week announced the CE-IVD launch of its Sentosa SA Direct MRSA/SA PCR test.

The new test uses real-time PCR to qualitatively detect and differentiate Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant S. aureus from nasal swabs in patients at risk for nasal colonization, to aid in the prevention and control of MRSA/SA infections in healthcare settings, Singapore-based Vela said.

The assay identifies a broad range of SCCmec cassette types, as well as both the mecA and novel mecC genes, and is validated for use with the Sentosa SX Lysis Beads and Sentosa SA Reporter. This workflow allows for direct sample lysis and automated result interpretation, thus improving laboratory efficiency and shortening time to result, Vela said.
