Caliper Life Sciences and Edge BioSystems said today that they will collaborate to co-develop automated sample-prep protocols for gene sequencing.

Specifically, Caliper and EdgeBio will co-develop automated protocols for Life Technologies' 5500xl, SOLiD 4, and Ion Torrent Personal Genome Machine systems on Caliper's Sciclone NGS Workstation.

The partners will initially focus on sample prep for exome, whole-genome, and RNA sequencing applications.
