Product Watch: New Products from Bio-Rad, NuGen, and Asuragen

Bio-Rad has introduced the CFX Connect real-time PCR detection system.

The CFX Connect system offers the same performance as the CFX96 Touch real-time PCR system, but requires a computer for operation, Bio-Rad said.

The new system uses a similar scanning optics shuttle design that reads each well individually with high sensitivity and no cross talk. CFX Connect detects two fluorophores per well in duplex experiments and detects SYBR Green or EvaGreen in singleplex experiments, the company said.

NuGen and Life Technologies' Ion Torrent business this week announced the release of the Encore NGS Library Systems developed by NuGen for the Ion Personal Genome Machine.

The Encore NGS Library Systems for Ion Torrent allow users to produce DNA libraries from as little as 100 ng of DNA in a streamlined workflow that does not require specialized equipment to perform size selection, NuGen said. Sequencing libraries can be created for a wide range of applications and kit selection offers the option of 16-plex multiplex sequencing on an Ion chip.

Asuragen said this week that it has commercially launched the ARQ IS Calibrator Panels for research use only.

The new panels are intended to aid laboratories with the standardization of BCR-ABL1 quantitative measurements on the International Scale. Asuragen developed the panels in collaboration with Novartis and an international group of laboratories dedicated to BCR-ABL1 standardization.

According to Asuragen, accurate molecular monitoring of BCR-ABL1 fusion transcripts levels in chronic myeloid leukemia is achieved by reporting qRT-PCR results on the IS. Until the recent establishment of an international standard approved by World Health Organization, standardization of local qRT-PCR methods to the IS could only be achieved through a lengthy sample exchange with an IS Reference Laboratory.

The ARQ IS Calibrator Panels are the first secondary panels directly calibrated to the first WHO International Genetic Reference Panel for quantification of BCR-ABL1 translocations by qRT-PCR that are made broadly available to the international BCR-ABL1 testing community, Asuragen said.
