Product Watch: Exiqon, Ingenuity, Life Technologies, and Integromics

Exiqon this week announced the launch of Pick-&-Mix microRNA qPCR panels to quantify microRNAs in human, rat, mouse, dog, monkey, and several other organisms.

The new panels, which use Exiqon's MiRcury LNA Universal RT microRNA PCR system, allow researchers to select the exact qPCR assays needed for their particular study, thus saving time and reagents because microRNA expression profiling can be conducted on a focused set of microRNAs rather than the entire miRnome, Exiqon said. This enables analysis of several samples per plate resulting in more efficient use of valuable samples and resources.

Exiqon said that the Pick-&-Mix microRNA qPCR panels can be used on all major brands of qPCR instruments, including instruments with 96- and 384-well array formats.

Ingenuity Systems and Life Technologies this week introduced Ingenuity iReport for real-time PCR optimized for TaqMan gene expression assays.

Ingenuity iReport is an interactive report that extends analysis beyond Ct or fold-changes to an accurate and dynamic view of the biological information most relevant to a gene expression experiment, the companies said.

In contrast to time-consuming manual searches for relevant publications and gene relationships, Ingenuity iReport provides a more rapid and comprehensive understanding of pathways, processes, and diseases relevant to gene expression results, the companies said.

"In our research, we have developed specific strategies for analyzing single-cell data and defining important sets of genes based on correlation between the genes' expressions as measured by qPCR," Mikael Kubista, founder of TATAA Biocenter, said in a statement. "Uploading this data to iReport, we were able to immediately see the biology underlying our statistical results, and develop new hypotheses based on the differentially expressed pathways involved in our single cell experiments."

Integromics has launched RealTime StatMiner 4.3, the latest version of its qPCR data-analysis software.

The release lets users upload and analyze data from qPCR vendors such as Life Technologies, Roche, Bio-Rad, Illumina, Qiagen, and Fluidigm.

Its features include automated processing, quality controls, improved interactive visualizations, customized importation capacities, a global normalization method for miRNAs studies, and integration with the Ingenuity Pathway Analysis and the Tibco Spotfire web player.
