Eppendorf Licenses Thermal Cycler Patents to Life Tech, Alpha Labs

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) – Eppendorf has licensed a patent covering thermal cycler technology to two firms.

The Hamburg, Germany-based company licensed Patent EP1426110B1, which covers gradient technology for thermal cyclers, to Life Technologies, a Thermo Fisher Scientific subsidiary; and to Alpha Laboratories, a Hampshire, England-based distributor of lab consumables, equipment, and diagnostics.

Thermal gradient technology is commonly used to optimize reaction temperatures in different areas of a multi-well PCR plate. Eppendorf currently uses the technology in its Mastercycler pro gradient and nexus gradient models, the company said in a statement.

The firm licensed a German patent covering thermal gradient technology to SensoQuest last year, and has previously licensed gradient technology to firms such as Roche, Takara Bio, and Bulldog Bio.
