NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) – The New York State Department of Health has granted conditional approval for Enzo Biochem's assay for Candida infection allowing the firm to now offer the test to NY state residents.
The multiplex AmpiProbe Candidiasis test identifies five common species of Candida bacteria from a vaginal swab. It is the third test from Enzo to be NY state approved, and the second in the women's health market.
Previously Enzo received approval for HCV and HPV assays in the state. The former test is also in the AmpiProbe line and has been described on the company's website as a kit compatible with most open qPCR platforms, while the latter test is flow cytometry-based.
The Candida assay will also be part of a comprehensive women's health panel under development, the firm said in a statement, adding that it is also working on products "designed to aid pathologists in distinguishing the characteristics of various tumors from biopsy specimens."
