Elchrom, Biotium Partner on Pre-cast Gels for HLA Typing

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Biotium's GelRed will be incorporated into Elchrom Scientific's pre-cast gels for HLA typing and sold globally as part of an agreement announced by the companies today.

Switzerland-based Elchrom develops materials and methods for separating nucleic acids. The HLA Ready-to-Use Gels with GelRed are the first of its kind to be stained with GelRed and offers eight-channel capability for up to 96 sample testing simultaneously within seven minutes, it said.

"The new HLA Ready-to-use Gels will provide customers with much needed speed, simplicity, reproducible results and significantly improved convenience, thus saving valuable time from tedious old-fashioned gel pouring and casting," Elechrom CEO Zisi Fotev said in a statement.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Biotium is based in Hayward, Calif., and provides fluorescence detection technology and products.
