NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Bio-Rad Laboratories said today it has received a No Objection Letter from the US Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service for its iQ-Check real-time PCR method for detecting Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) bacteria in beef.

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Life Technologies said today it received a Letter of No Objection from the US Department of Agriculture-Food Safety and Inspection Service for the firm's RapidFinder Shiga-toxin producing Escheria coli (STEC) Detection system.

Researchers are exploring the use of genomics-based approaches such as SNP typing and whole-genome sequencing to augment food safety programs.
