MBio, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Collaborate on Septic Shock Panel for Clinical Dx

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) – MBio Diagnostics and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center have announced a collaboration to develop multiplex panels for septic shock on the MBio platform.

Under the terms of the collaboration, Boulder, Colorado-based MBio will work with Hector Wong, director of Cincinnati Children's division of critical care medicine, to adapt existing panels to MBio's portable, cartridge-based Array System. The tests will provide prognostic information on patients with septic shock and deliver results on a clinically relevant time frame, the partners said in a statement.

The collaboration will draw funding from Cincinnati Children's innovation fund. Further details were not disclosed.

"The MBio Array System has the potential to be a unique and important new tool for immune system and host response monitoring," Wong said in a statement. "I am particularly excited about the MBio technology because of its ability to deliver multiple results in near real-time with the ease-of-use required for implementation in critical care settings."

Last month, MBio announced a plan to raise $2.3 million in a private placement. The firm said it would use the funds to pursue partnerships based on its Array System. Previously, the firm had landed several opportunities in applied markets, including a National Science Foundation grant to develop water toxin testing technology and a food safety product development deal signed in December 2015 with Roka Bioscience.
