Helix, Komodo Health Partner to Broaden Data in Helix Research Network

NEW YORK – Helix said Monday that it has partnered with Komodo Health to add medical, pharmacy, and mortality data from Komodo's Healthcare Map to Helix's clinico-genomic datasets within the Helix Research Network (HRN) study.

Financial and other details of the partnership were not disclosed.

The HRN was launched in 2021 and comprises a network of academic, public, and private healthcare organizations that aim to advance large-scale medical research by integrating multimodal omics data into clinical care. The study aims to recruit approximately 1.5 million participants, whose de-identified data will support research into the molecular and genetic determinants of disease risk and progression, treatment response, health economic outcomes, social or behavioral determinants of health, therapeutic targets, risk stratification, clinical implementation, and other clinical indicators of interest.

The HRN platform includes processes to enable regular EHR refreshes across cohorts, for sharing individual results with participants, and the ability to recontact HRN participants about future research studies.

"Augmenting Helix data with Komodo's Healthcare Map will enable partner researchers to explore additional insights into medication usage, treatment adherence, and total cost of care across large populations in a wide array of conditions," James Lu, CEO and cofounder of Helix, said in a statement.

Helix has recently been launching numerous population genomics programs, including a precision health initiative with Ohio State University, a no-cost genetic testing program with Memorial Hermann, and a health-risk screening program with the state of Nebraska.

Last year, Komodo teamed up with GeneDx to make rare disease genomic datasets available for biopharmaceutical research.
