Expedeon Licenses Colloidal Gold Nanoparticles to South Korean MDx Firm

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) — Expedeon said today that has signed a licensing and supply agreement for its colloidal gold with South Korean diagnostics firm PaxGenBio.

According to Expedeon, its colloidal gold is an aqueous suspension of uniform, spherical metallic nanoparticles. Under the terms of the deal, Expedeon will supply the colloidal gold to PaxGenBio for use in its multiplexed polymerase chain reaction-based universal lateral flow assays for the simultaneous detection of sexually transmitted diseases — including human papillomavirus — and tuberculosis.

The arrangement has a term of three years and includes an option to extend. Additional terms were not disclosed.

"Our commercially scalable, proprietary colloidal gold particle manufacturing and coating process provides particles of the highest quality, and offers superior properties in terms of particle size and shape and their ability to conjugate antibodies or antigens," Expedeon CEO and CSO Heikki Lanckriet said in a statement.
