NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) – BioMérieux and the Jackson Laboratory announced today that they will work together to develop diagnostics that identify pathogens and evaluate antimicrobial resistance to infectious diseases.
The France-based in vitro diagnostics company will work with researchers in the laboratory of George Weinstock, director of microbial genomics at the Jackson Laboratory. Together, they will work towards developing better methods of identifying patients at risk for infections, detecting the pathogens that cause infections, and understanding which antibiotics offer the most effective treatment for patients.
Financial and other terms of the collaboration were not disclosed.
"Our laboratory brings expertise in next-generation DNA sequencing and metagenomic analysis, which is transforming our ability to bring precision medicine to infectious diseases," Weinstock said in a statement. "BioMérieux brings a wealth of expertise in clinical microbiology and the biology and detection of microbial resistance, all critical factors in determining the right antibiotic treatment for a given infection."
BioMérieux's Science Office Vice President William Michael Dunne added that the partnership will yield "some very novel and exciting approaches toward diagnostic microbiology."
