WaferGen Raises $6.2M in Private Financings

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – WaferGen Biosystems has raised gross proceeds of approximately $6.2 million through a series of private placements between June 16 and Aug. 31, the firm said today.

The publicly traded maker of gene expression and genotyping systems said that it issued roughly 5 million shares of common stock at a price of $1.25 per share, along with warrants to purchase 1,502,700 shares of common stock, at an exercise price of $2 per share. The warrants have a five-year term, the firm said.

WaferGen said that it would use proceeds from the offerings to fund advancement and commercialization of its SmartChip Real-Time PCR System.
