New Product Watch: Nov 3, 2009

Akonni Biosystems this week launched TruTip, a tool for extracting DNA and RNA from samples with volumes ranging from 100 µl to 1000 µl or more.

Akonni's TruTip uses a nucleic acid-binding matrix that is inserted into most standard pipette tips, including those used by electronic pipettes and liquid-handling robotic devices. By passing sample back and forth across the binding matrix, the TruTip delivers inhibitor-free, PCR-ready nucleic acid from a variety of sample types, the firm said.

The TruTip product line currently includes kits for genomic DNA, microbial DNA, and RNA extraction from a variety of sample sources. Akonni recommends the TruTip nucleic acid extraction approach for use with its TruDx microarray platform.

NuGen Technologies this week launched the Applause 3'-Amplification System, a single-tube approach for preparing RNA samples for microarray gene expression studies.

Using its linear Ribo-SPIA single primer isothermal amplification technology, NuGen now offers amplification for the Affymetrix GeneChip 3' expression arrays, the firm said.
