Softberry has appointed Victor Solovyev as CSO and chairman of the board. Solovyev is a co-founder of the Mt. Kisco, NY-based com-pany. In his new position, he will lead Softberry’s strategic R&D effort. He most recently served as director of bioinformatics at Eos Biotechnology and led the computational genomics group at the Sanger Center.
GeneData of South San Francisco, Calif., has appointed Matthew Trunnell as CTO and head of the company’s West Coast office, and Dennis Bittner as director of marketing. Prior to joining GeneData, Trunnell was director of technology synthesis at Blackstone Computing. Bittner was most recently alliance manager at InforMax.
Gene-IT of Rueil-Malmaison, France, hired Ronald Ranauro as executive vice president of worldwide business development and general manager of the company’s new US operations in Boston. Ranauro, the co-founder and former CEO of Blackstone Computing, will be responsible for expanding Gene-IT’s presence in the US market.
Bangalore, India-based Strand Genomics has appointed Siraj Dhanani as head of business development, Asia Pacific, and Kalyanasundaram Subramaniam as VP, systems biology. Dhanani was previously an associate director in the healthcare practice of UBS Warburg, while Subramaniam was senior director of modeling at Entelos.
