InforMax has promoted Steve Lincoln from senior vice president of life science informatics to executive vice president of product development and chief scientific officer. Lincoln joined InforMax in December 2000. Before joining the company, he was vice president of bioinformatics research and development at Incyte Genomics.
Vadim Babenko, chief technology officer and a co-founder of Bethesda, Md.-based InforMax, has stepped down as an officer of the company and will now provide advisory services on a more limited basis.
Separately, InforMax announced the promotion of Richard Melzer to senior vice president of sales and marketing and the appointment of J. Rollins as vice president of sales.
Melzer replaces Timothy Sullivan, who resigned.
AnVil Informatics of Lowell, Mass., has hired two new managers. Jai Dev Dasgupta, vice president of products and services, has joined the company from CyberMedica, where he was vice president of technology services. Katherine Webster, formerly commercial account manager for Celera Genomics, has signed on as vice president of sales.
AnVil has also added Louis Frisina to its business advisory team. Most recently, Frisina was senior vice president of TheScientificWorld, a Web-based search engine company for scientific information acquisition.
Mark Gessler, president and CEO of Gene Logic of Gaithersburg, Md., has been appointed as the chairman of the company’s board of directors.
Gessler succeeds Michael Brennan, a general partner of equity investment firm Oxford Biosciences Partners, who will continue to serve as a board member for Gene Logic.
