Seven Bridges, Scripps Research Win $7.5M Contract to Develop NIAID Data Ecosystem

NEW YORK – Seven Bridges Genomics and Scripps Research said Thursday that they have won a $7.5 million contract from the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to build a federated data ecosystem.

The project, called the NIAID Data Ecosystem, or NDE, will create a secure environment for researchers to find, access, query, and analyze data from various NIAID repositories and knowledgebases.

According to Charlestown, Massachusetts-based Seven Bridges, the NDE will be a hub for the discovery and analysis of data on various infectious diseases, including COVID-19. It is also being designed to support a rapid response to future pandemics.

"The NDE will dramatically improve the ability of researchers to discover data that is relevant for their research, efficiently analyze that data with reproducible tools, and collaborate with other researchers," Scripps Research senior staff scientist Laura Hughes said in a statement. "The Seven Bridges and Scripps teams have developed extensive infrastructure to support data findability and data analysis, and we have a long history of collaborating with NIAID researchers to share, visualize, and analyze infectious disease data."
