NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) – SciBite announced today that it has acquired FactBio, a developer of semantic software for life sciences data management and curation.
FactBio's primary offering is its recently launched Knowledge Sharing Platform — or Kusp — which includes tools for data discovery and curation. SciBite, meanwhile, has developed computational technology for named entity recognition and biomedical text mining.
FactBio will become a wholly owned subsidiary of SciBite, and the companies will merge operations at SciBite's existing offices in Cambridge, England. Specific financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"FactBio's platforms address a critical step in the data analysis pipeline, a growing issue for our customers," SciBite CEO Rob Greenwood said in a statement. "The technology shares SciBite's principles of using strong semantic data representation through high-quality ontologies, and together provide a holistic solution to today's big data challenges."
