CAPE TOWN, South Africa--Winston Hide, director of the South African National Bioinformatics Institute here, has announced the release of an upgrade to the institute's Sequence Tag Alignment and Consensus Knowledgebase (Stack). Stack 2.0 is an error-compensated database of alignments and clustered EST consensus sequences generated by exhaustive sequence comparison of all possible sequence fragments against each other, according to Hide.
The database, available at http://ziggy.sanbi.za/stack, was generated using GenBank 103. Searches against Stack can yield extended consensus sequences made from constituent EST's, which in turn yield longer queries for subsequent work, Hide said. He added that links and consensus sequences simplify EST work. An add database and add toolset will also be released.
