Silicon Genetics of Redwood City, Calif., has hired Saeid Akhtari as its senior vice president and COO, a newly created position.

Akhtari will be responsible for sales, marketing, business development, finance, administration, and human resources.

Prior to joining Silicon Genetics, Akhtari was vice president of corporate marketing and strategic development at Pharsight and vice president of sales, marketing, and strategic planning at DoubleTwist. He also held senior management positions at IntelliGenetics and Oxford Molecular Group.

The North Carolina State University Bioinformatics Research Center has named Craig Liddell, vice president of informatics at Paradigm Genetics, to its scientific advisory board.

Liddell will advise the center on the implementation and integration of computer systems into its labs and will help guide the organization''s strategic direction.

Saiid Zarrabian, formerly chief operating officer of Pharmacopeia and president of its Molecular Simulations division, has been hired as president and chief operating officer of La Jolla, Calif.-based Senomyx.

Paul Grayson, formerly president and CEO of Senomyx, will remain as CEO and a member of the board of directors.
