Accelrys has appointed Rick Russo as senior vice president and CFO.
Russo most recently served as CFO of Captiva Software, a provider of automatic data capture software that was acquired by EMC in December 2005.
Russo replaces David Sankaran, who resigned as senior vice president and CFO of Accelrys in June.
Aureus Pharma has tapped Jason Theodosiou as chief operating officer and as a member of the company’s board of directors.
Theodosiou was most recently vice president for global business at Elsevier MDL and at Lion Biosciences. He also held the position of general manager for European operations at EMAX/SciQUEST.
John Rigsbee has joined Entelos as general counsel. In this role, Rigsbee will advise the company regarding intellectual property, technology transfer, licensing, and general corporate matters.
Rigsbee joins Entelos from Jazz Pharmaceuticals, where he served as corporate counsel and was responsible for providing legal advice to support R&D, licensing and acquisitions, sales and marketing, medical affairs, and clinical affairs. Prior to that, Rigsbee served as corporate counsel at Tularik and as an attorney with Venture Law Group and Townsend and Townsend and Crew.
The Indiana University School of Informatics has appointed Keith Dunker, professor of biochemistry and of molecular biology at the IU School of Medicine, as director of the School of Informatics' Bioinformatics Program. Dunker will continue to serve as director of the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics at the School of Medicine.
Dunker joined IU in 2003 from Washington State University. His research focuses on the relationship between protein folding and function. He replaces Gary Wiggins, adjunct professor, who was serving as interim director of the Bioinformatics Program. Wiggins will continue leading the school's Chemical Informatics Program.
Sun Kim, assistant professor, retains his position as associate director of the Bioinformatics Program at Bloomington. Malika Mahoui, assistant professor, will serve as interim associate director of bioinformatics at IUPUI.
In addition, Trevor Heritage, senior vice president and chief scientific officer of Elsevier MDL, has joined the science informatics advisory board at the School of Informatics.
In 2002, Elsevier MDL and the School of Informatics established the Elsevier MDL Excellence in Informatics Fellowship, which provides funding support to incoming or second-year graduate students pursuing degrees in chemical informatics or bioinformatics.
Rosetta Biosoftware has formed a scientific advisory board to help guide future development and commercialization of products in the area of proteomics. SAB members include Ruedi Aebersold, professor at the Swiss Institute of Technology and the University of Zurich and co-founder and faculty member of the Institute for Systems Biology; Ronald Hendrickson, director of proteomics in the department of molecular profiling at Merck Research Laboratories; and Yoshiya Oda, senior scientist at Eisai’s Laboratory of Seeds Finding Technology and a visiting associate professor at the Metabolome Laboratory at the Graduate School of Medicine at the University of Tokyo.
Spotfire has hired Roger Oberg as its chief marketing officer. Oberg previously served as vice president of marketing and strategy for IBM's Rational software division, a position he held since February 2004. Prior to that, he was a marketing and business unit executive with Rational since 1996.
