Portugal Joins Europe's ELIXIR Bioinformatics Project

Premium

The European Bioinformatics Institute said this week that Portugal has agreed to participate in the European Life-science Infrastructure for Biological Information, or ELIXIR, project.

The EBI said that Portugal has signed the ELIXIR memorandum of understanding, which formally commits signatories to support the development of the bioinformatics infrastructure.

Signing the MOU also gives Portugal representation on the ELIXIR Interim Board, which is the main body negotiating the final legal and governance structure of the pan-European project.

Portugal joins existing ELIXIR contributors Italy (BI 7/12/2012), the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (BI 9/16/2011).
