New DNA Sequencing Software Produces Base-Calling Confidence Values

FULLERTON, Calif.--Beckman Coulter has unveiled its Ceq 2000 Base-Calling software version 1.1 for use with its Ceq 2000 DNA Analysis System. The new software comes with an algorithm that judges the reliability of the base calls by analyzing peak spacing and resolutions, and the ratio of uncalled to called bases, among other factors. It compares that information with reliability data from a matrix of known sequences to determine the probability of correctness of the base call. The system then produces confidence values that assure the researcher that the novel DNA sequence retrieved by Ceq 2000 is as accurate as possible.
