Myriad Patents Gene-Discovery Technology

SALT LAKE CITY--Myriad Genetics has been awarded a patent for a method of determining the complete sequence of a gene in order to correctly determine its protein product, which also hastens the understanding of how the gene is regulated. The technology is expected to accelerate the development of new therapies based on Myriad's gene discoveries.

The patent covers several improvements to a technology used for accelerating the gene discovery process known as 5-Prime RACE. The technology is especially useful to researchers in locating the 5-prime ends of genes.
