Molecular Simulations Funds University's Bioinformatics Program

Premium

YORK, UK--Molecular Simulations, a subsidiary of Pharmacopeia, said it will provide research funding for four years to the new Centre for Structural Biology at the University of York here. Established in July with a grant of over £1 million from the UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, the center's mission is to support, stimulate, and promote structural analysIs of biological molecules.

Under the funding arrangement, Molecular Simulations will have the first opportunity to commercialize additional software and informatics-based technology developed at the center.

Molecular Simulations' research support will be directed toward the use of computational methods in the study of structure-function relationships in biological molecules. Applying these methods to experimentally derived information about molecular structure can help predict and determine the function of novel gene and protein products, the company observed.
