Viaken Systems of Gaithersburg, Md., has appointed Michael Provance to head up its global professional services consulting unit.

Provance, who joins Viaken from Internet consulting firm US Interactive, will take over the responsibilities of managing the group from Stephen Gardner, Viaken’s vice president and CTO. Gardner will now focus on Viaken’s data products business and its European operations.

Provance has been charged with developing the professional services group into a profitable business unit, Viaken said.

John Sadler has been named senior vice president of engineering at Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Entigen.

Sadler will direct a project to combine Entigen’s Adaapt data integration platform with its Bio- Navigator bioinformatics workspace. He will also take part in expanding the company’s life science informatics offerings.

Prior to joining Entigen, Sadler served as general manager and CTO of Auntminnie.com, a B2B website for medical imaging professionals that was acquired by Eastman Kodak. Sadler was also manager of informatics, software, and systems at Agilent Technologies, where he headed development of the GeneArray scanner software.
