The International Society for Computational Biology has named Janet Thornton and Ewan Birney — both from the European Bioinformatics Institute — as the winners of its 2005 Senior Scientist Accomplishment Award and Overton Prize, respectively. This marks the first time that ISCB has recognized two scientists from the same institute for the awards.


Iconix Pharmaceuticals has hired Donald Halbert as executive vice president of R&D. Halbert was most recently director of genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics in Abbott Laboratories’ Global Pharmaceutical Research and Development Group.
