Genset Orders Molecular Dynamics DNA System

Premium

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--Molecular Dynamics announced that the French genomics company Genset placed a multiunit order for MegaBACE 1000 DNA sequencing systems. The systems will significantly expand Genset's sequencing capacity, claimed Molecular Dynamics.

The sequencer technology, developed jointly with Amersham Pharmacia Biotech, utilizes 96 capillary columns, operating in parallel, to separate, detect, and analyze fluorescently labeled DNA fragments. Molecular Dynamics said sequence read lengths typically exceed 500 base pairs per sample. The system automates gel matrix replacement, sample injection, DNA separation, and data analysis for significant productivity gains over traditional slab gel systems, the company claimed.
