GeneBio Will Be SIB's Exclusive Representative


GENEVA--The Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB), a nonprofit research and training center here, has named Geneva Bioinformatics (GeneBio) its exclusive commercial representative. SIB is the developer of proteomic tools and protein databases such as SWISS-PROT, PROSITE, and SWISS-2DPAGE. The products will continue to be available free to academic and nonprofit users, but effective September 1 they will be offered to commercial users by subscription only. GeneBio said it will propose a premium subscription service, SWISS-PROT Plus, which will include technical support, databases on CD-ROM, and printed documentation. A secure version of the ExPASy proteomics web server will also be offered.
