GENEVA--GeneBio, a private company here, and the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, unveiled Melanie 3, the latest version of their 2D gel electrophoresis image analysis software package, which incorporates a new navigation system called Proteome Browser. The product resulted from a two-year collaboration among biologists, bioinformaticists, and proteome scientists from the Hochstrasser research group here. Scientists can use the product’s contextual windows to facilitate navigation between gels, tables, and graphs, to quickly access and interpret data. Melanie 3 includes reporting tools, robust statistical functions, and links to mass spectrometry data and external databases to allow seamless querying of public databases such as Swiss-Prot and Swiss-2Dpage.
