Genomic services provider Eurofins MWG Operon said this week that it is using Geospiza's GeneSifter data management and analysis software to manage its DNA sequencing systems and data flow.

Eurofins MWG Operon, the genomic services arm of multinational pharma services firm Eurofins, has three production sites in the US, Europe, and Asia. Its offers sequencing services on the Roche/454 FLX genome sequencer system and the ABI 3730 DNA Analyzer from Life Technologies.

Paul Brown, director of marketing for Eurofins MWG Operon, told BioInform that the firm will initially implement GeneSifter to support services offered on the ABI 3730xl sequencers. "This part of our business consists of hundreds of thousands of Sanger sequencing reads per year," he said.

The company is also investigating using GeneSifter for its 454 FLX platform "in the future," but Brown did not give a timeline.

Martin Kunz, chief technology officer at Eurofins MWG Operon, said in a statement that GeneSifter "was the best in class product" to help the firm automate its systems.

The software will enhance the automation of the sequencing facility and will also allow the company to offer customers additional benefits such as barcode tracking of their submitted templates and primers, Kunz said.
