ELIXIR Becomes Independent Legal Entity

Premium

The European Bioinformatics Institute said this week that the European Life-science Infrastructure for Biological Information (ELIXIR) project has become an independent legal entity.

The transition occurred after Estonia became the fifth country to ratify the ELIXIR Consortium Agreement. Other signatories include the United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory.

According to the EBI, this marks the formal launch of the infrastructure for biological data that will support life science research in Europe, and its translation to medicine, the bio-industries, and society
