Edward Koval, Mark Adams, James Aswell, Bill Rutter, Stelios Papadopoulos


Variagenics of Cambridge, Mass., has promoted Edward Koval, previously senior director of business development, to vice president of corporate and strategic development and Mark Adams, previously senior director, to vice president of bioinformatics.

The company has also hired James Aswell as senior director of diagnostics, a newly created position. Aswell was formerly senior staff scientist at Bayer Diagnostics.

Bill Rutter and Stelios Papadopoulos have been appointed to the board of directors of San Diego-based Structural GenomiX, increasing the board to eight members.

Rutter is a founder and chairman emeritus of Chiron and also a founder of Prospect Genomics, which was recently acquired by Structural GenomiX.

Papadopoulos is a managing director in the investment banking division at SG Cowen.
