DNAStar has launched Lasergene 8.1. New features in sequence-analysis software package include automated virtual multi-site gateway cloning capability and the ability to simultaneously analyze SNPs from multiple sources.

The software supports data generated from the Roche 454, Illumina Genome Analyzer, ABI SOLiD, and Helicos sequencing platforms. It will also be compatible with DNAStar's sequence assembly tool SeqMan NGen and be able to interface with GenVision, the company's data visualization software.

Lasergene 8.1 runs on Microsoft's Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7; as well as Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6.

Agilent Technologies has released GeneSpring GX 11, the latest version of its desktop software for visualizing and analyzing microarray data. The company also launched GeneSpring Workgroup 11, the enterprise version of the GeneSpring software.

Agilent said that GeneSpring 11 adds capabilities for genetic association analysis using genotyping data, genomic copy number analysis, and other analytical and visualization tools for comparing these data types.

GeneSpring 11 also includes automatic translation of probes across different microarray platforms and organisms, and allows researchers to compare results through a drag-and-drop function into a Venn diagram, Agilent said.

GeneSpring Workgroup 11, meantime, adds two web-enabled clients and a central database for storage of different -omics data types. The data browser provides an interface through which users can search for experiments and samples stored in the database.

Chemical Computing Group has released the 2009.10 version of the Molecular Operating Environment (MOE).

New features in the release include real-time ray-traced graphics; scaffold replacement and linking for ligand- or structure-based design projects; a SOAP server to integrate MOE into pipeline workflows; LowModeMD conformational search of protein loops and complex systems; a Synthetic Score descriptor to estimate synthetic feasibility of virtual compounds; and protein/antibody modeling technology for enhanced backbone and side-chain sampling.
