BioCapital Invests $2.5 Million in Bioinformatics And Genomics Firms

MONTREAL--BioCapital Investments, a fixed capital investment limited partnership here that invests in healthcare and biotechnology companies with high growth potential, announced earlier this month that it invested $12.9 million in nine companies, including one bioinformatics company and one genomics firm.

The partnership invested $500,000 in Quantum Biotechnolo gies, a private company specializing in design and development of specific niche molecular and cellular manipulation products for the genomic research market. The core technologies of the company, already partly owned by BioCapital, are in molecular biology, molecular genetics and immunology.

Base4 Bioinformatics, which applies bioinformatics techniques to predict the function and utility of newly discovered human genes and proteins, received $2 million from partners Tera Capital Working Ventures and Allelix Biopharmaceuticals.
