OODBRIDGE, Conn.--Bayer said it has begun expanding its research facilities as a direct result of alliances with Millennium Pharmaceuticals and Lion Bioscience, which have given the pharmaceutical company access to genomic and bioinformatics-based research technologies. Bayer expects to spend $80 million to expand its research facilities in West Haven and Orange. Plans include construction of a chemistry research building and a high-throughput screening center. The company expects to hire more than 200 additional chemists and biologists by 2003.
