Abbott Selects Synergy Software Package for Genomic Research

Premium

ABBOTT PARK, Ill.--Abbott Laboratories here has chosen NetGenics' Synergy software and services package to manage data generated by the pharmaceutical company's genomics research program. "Synergy will allow Abbott to integrate diverse types of genomics data and analysis tools, and to apply genomics information to finding new drug targets," commented NetGenics CEO Manuel Glynias.

Abbott is Synergy's first customer, said Alan Engelberg, NetGenics' vice-president of marketing. He added that about five other large pharmaceutical companies are in talks about buying the system and more deals may close by early next year. Synergy offers an integrated CORBA/Java-based software framework that allows bioinformatics and pharmaceutical users to interact with diverse analytical software tools from a common user interface.
