IDT Acquires Singapore Firm's Oligonucleotide Business

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Integrated DNA Technologies has acquired the oligonucleotide business of Singapore's 1st Base for an undisclosed amount, IDT announced today.

The new company has been renamed 1st Base Custom Oligos (FBCO) and will offer locally manufactured oligos throughout Singapore and the region. The company is IDT's first synthesis facility in Asia, it said, adding that it will keep the 1st Base brand for small-scale DNA oligos synthesized in Singapore.

Kok Choy Lee, CEO of 1st Base, is now the general manager of FBCO and a member of IDT's leadership in Asia.

According to 1st Base's website, it continues to provide other services such as next-generation sequencing and proteomics services.

In a statement, Joseph Walder, founder and CEO of IDT, said that as its Singapore business gets started, IDT will need to learn about the needs of researchers in the region, but with a presence there now, the company plans to build off the success of its North American and European operations.

IDT had announced a deal with Synthetic Genomics last week covering small synthetic gene products.
